  • A few new spoons

Hadn't posted any spoons for a while, and just took some pictures of a few recent completions, so thought I'd share. The simple one, I've done before in yew, but it was very popular, and I have a big show coming soon, so I thought I'd try it in some other woods. Still haven't broken one.
The one with the cardinals is a commission made of cherry, the one with the knotwork is mahogany, and then the simple ones are cherry and mahogany. They're all between 11 and 12 inches long.

Yep, superb. Just superb. I cannot believe the beautiful detail and I don't know how you manage to keep them in one piece.

I know her secret! No power carving....all knife and palm tools. And remember, these are only photographs. In "the flesh" they're even more stunning.

Beautifully designed and superbly crafted gems of lovespoon carving. The obvious care and affection expended in their making really says something. It's interesting to see how the mahogany has stood up to the physical but deft forces that must have been needed, at times, to produce such elegancy.

Thanks, all! I'm glad to see people like them. David, you're right about the mahogany - these both came from an especially stringy board, too - they were quite a challenge. Still, eventually the mahogany yields such a pretty variety of colors.
