  • owl hat rack

The other day someone posted about liking owls, and I had one I was working on in my hand. (What a hoot!)
I found this pattern on the internet, made some changes, and finally got it done except for another coat of finish.
Then I was asked to make a pull stick, to pull a video screen down from the ceiling at church. The pictures didn't do it any justice, but this guy is on his tip-toes, left hand in his pocket, tongue hanging out the side of his mouth, right hand reaching up for the grip. I still have some work to do to finish it up. The face isn't done, and some other details need work, too.
    Hope you like it.

    Re: owl hat rack

Might have been me. I like owls. I did have the successful bid for Howie's "Owl In Flight" which he had donated for a fund-raising auction.
You've done quite an elegant owl. My ability to keep the left/right symmetry is still primitive.
Only hat rack I ever made is an oak 2x4 with 4 1910 railroad spikes inletted. I put the spikes too close together for hats with brims. Dang!

Great idea and carving if the owl. Also can't wait to see the pull stick when it's done.

              Re: owl hat rack

Here it is, Harold. My first project without the use of a pattern. I'm actually surprised that it didn't turn out half bad, but now its done, and it leaves tomorrow.
The ear didn't turn out as nice as I was wanting, but it's not easy doing detail in oak.
I hope everyone else likes it.
I welcome all feedback and constructive criticism.
              TIA,
              Michael
