  • New walking cane (WIP)

    Hi gang,
As you probably know I was at a woodshow this weekend. It was pretty slow but I managed to carve this cane and one more plus some other woodspirits that I will show you later. This is the start of the walking cane notice how it has a natural handle. I always get excited when I find one with a handle. This was quite unique, the first picture is the underneath of the handle and I have three other woodspirits in it so far. Dont know how many I will end up with but I will update as I go.

Man Oh Man! When you get the carving doldrums we don't see anything for awhile, but when the carving mood hits you I can't hardly keep up with all of your postings... and I'm glad that you've been in the carving mood lately!

This is a nice one and I too get excited when I occasionally find one with a natural God-given handle. When it's like this you don't have to spend all the time attaching a seperate piece. The natural ones are rare but are my favorites.

          Thanks for sharing!

That stick is outstanding! I love the way you have used the curve of the handle area and the placement of the top face ... he has that perfect head tilt for a startled look! Just wonderful. I have some scrub sumac up along the road side on my yard. I think I'm going to go get my big pruners and take a little walk. That stick is inspiring me to new ideas.

                          Careful Susan ,

some sumac can be just like poison ivy.

Thanks Ash ... I'll double check what is growing along the road to the department of agriculture sites before I cut anything.

I just love that stick. Going out this week end to get some sumac. The stuff grows like weeds around here. What did you finish it with? Great job!!
