Re: Grizzly Carving
Thanks to all for the kind words - I've never done any carving this large.
Just love carving Big Game Animals (Bears, Elk, Moose, Deer) and leaves are always enjoyable for me to carve. - with this big old hunk of Walnut, I really wanted to tell a story.
Larry, Glad you like the style on the grass - the size of the area to carve made me try a different way to carve a meadow.
I saw something like it on a carved mantel once so I gave it a shot.
I wanted to give the meadow some movement - it was an experiment that I think works OK, but I'll experiment more to see how I can improve on it.

Re: Grizzly Carving
Lance the carving and the scene are great I really like them, but I especially like the leaves up in the right corner and the way you did the grass.

Grizzly Carving
This is a carving I just completed. It is about 17" x 23" and is carved on a solid plank of Walnut.
I call it "Finders Keepers" - A big Grizzly claiming a hunter's Elk.
I used my NSK E Max for the rough out and my NSK Presto handpiece for the detail work.
I'm still learning how to use diluted oil paints as stains. I only have five colors to work with and mix up so far.......
(and I'm not a great photographer)
