    Re: cherry mermaid

Two weeks in the sun certainly gave her a tan! Looks really nice, like the scales.
Is it common for hardwoods to darken in the sun (or just cherry?)
Western Red Cedar turns silver outdoors but only if left unfinished.

after 2 weeks in the sun. its darkened quite a bit. This cherry does darkend and hide the glue lines just fine.

    started a topic cherry mermaid

    cherry mermaid

Semi finished the mermaid. scaled to about 4ft if standing. used cherry and it is so light I am having trouble hiding the glue line seperating her body from the scale half.
I am "baking/tanning" her in the sun to see how dark she gets. If it all looks good then I will recut the hair to give it "hi-lites". I am so opposed to staining but that is basically what I am doing with the UV rays of the sun.
Working...
