Re: Basswood Cowboy Bust
Thanks everyone for the comments on the carving. This is one I have been wanting to carve for years now and finally did. I had alot of fun with the getting the master copy ready for duplicating and even more when the copys came back from Heinicke. I have to amit though I changed some things around from the original design but thnik it worked out for the better.
Steve, The finish was, after lightly sanding the piece with 400-grit, (excluding the hat & base, which was stepped down) was linseed oil first, then right after applying the oil the carving was sprayed with 3-coats of Deft satin spray lacquer allowing 10 hours dry time between each coat and smoothing out the lacquer with simulated steel wool #0000. After this I dry brushed with burnt umber acrylic paint, the hair area's and area's for shadowing. The final coat was a matte spray to get rid of the shiny spots.
