I recently chainsaws this crane and I am not really sure how to finish the base and I'm tempted in putting in some eyeballs if I could get some advice on how to or even if I need to finish the base I would appreciate it guys? Thanks

You might carve some ripples on the top of the base. Herons are often standing in water. For eyes I suggest you do as search on "cabochons." Buy a couple of interesting stones and inset them into head at the right spot.

Not sure how I would finish him. I think on a stomp might be good looking. Eyes ....no. Keep it simple. BTW looks fantastic. Ginny

Well I finished my crane put it on a stump and made it look like water. I also add some eyes and it really pops thanks
