    Re: Birch Relief

Well I've finally gotten back to work on the hood. I've been very busy. Here's the latest progress picture.

Hi Dylan, wow wonderful progress I really like your work. I'm learning from you now for my future landscape relief. How do you like working on birch? I burned on it but not carved on it. It's more readily available in my lumber stores than bass wood. How would you compare the two for carving?
      Keep up the good work!

        Re: Birch Relief

Well done Dylan. I love the depth that you have achieved with the carving. Birch.....isn't what I would have expected, it isn't a wood that I've ever used for relief carving.

Great job son. Keep up the great work.

            Hey Dylan,
Great Reliefs! Did you happen to be at the North ALabama WoodCarving show in Huntsville in November??

                  Re: Birch Relief

Dylan this is the first time I have seen this, you did some great work, how hard is Birch to carve compared to Basswood, I have a board at home that may I may do a relief on also, seems like the piece I have is a lot lighter in color.

                    Re: Birch Relief

Kathy, I've enjoyed working on the birch. It's a little harder then basswood but it holds detail much better.

Gray, Yes I was there. I was so busy meeting everyone I could and watching my table that I didn't get to meet you. My table was up against the big doors, where was yours?

MelNM, you piece is probaby sap wood. The heart wood tends to be a little darker.

                    Thank you for the compliments
Here's the latest picture, I'm really moving on with the details now.
