Hello all. Boy what a year it's been. I managed to get a lot of projects started for winter. This is one I've been considering. I think it's a very interesting design and haven't seen any kits of it on the market. Still have some bits and pieces to fabricate for it and start finish sanding. I know the last kits made on the subject were paper models in 2002. Many of you have seen my other projects around this forum. I enjoy model carving completely....

Re: Air Racer.
Not at all off the beaten path, just not common nowadays. When I was a kid in the '40s and '50s we used to make these. In those days they were known as "solid models" as compared to the "flying models" we made out of balsa stringers and tissue paper.
Lots of fun, isn't it? I might have to try one...it's only been 60 years or so since my last one, a WW II bomber, the "Liberator."
Keep up the good work!Arthur

Re: Air Racer.
One could count the number of prototypists 3-D modelers in the world. Identification wooden aircraft modeling during the wars " just paint it black" and now collecting. I missed the wars by 20 years and plastic doesn't offer all the options or subjects. The carving in 'no' way rivals techniques displayed in and around this forum.
The carving mindset needed to enter a model aircraft project is the desire to impress yourself. There is a lot of fabricating needed to create the form. Then graphic art where the windows and paint are applied prior to finish sanding. Painting is with acrylics I use water based. One could easily put 40 hours into such a project. I have cats ,and they'd thwart any attempt to build a stick and tissue model. They don't bother the wood blocks.I'm considering trying a Whale or trout carve sometime. I'll be posting more on my work here....
