Excellent job on both, Bob! Looks like you're off to a good start. I really love the way you painted the chimney bricks! Do you mind sharing your technique?

      Re: First Santas of 2015

Thanks Bob. It’s pretty simple really. I outline the bricks with a V-Tool and then I paint the whole thing with whatever color I want the mortar to be. In this case, a dark grey. Then I put 3 or 4 “brick” colors on my pallet. Usually a red, a tan, a light grey, some black. I thin them down quite a bit. Then I start randomly painting 2 or 3 bricks on a side. I keep switching colors and rotating the chimney until they’re all painted. Some of the bricks get more than one color. That’s it.

They are well carved and I like your choice of colors. Like everyone else I think the bricks are great.

Ken, Here’s a picture of what I use the most. Ramelson palm sized tools. The other set is by Woodcraft. I probably bought them 20 years ago. I don’t think they make them anymore. They’re not pfeil Swiss Made tools and I don’t see them listed on the Woodcraft site. The Santa is 8-inches tall and the tools next to him are 6-inches long. I find myself using them more and more especially the skew. They work well on that size carving. Thanks for asking.
