Here is the first carving that I have finished completely. It\\\\\\\'s my version of a Bellamy-style American Eagle. I have been interested in carving for a long time, but never thought I would have the time for another hobby. My wife surprised me a few years back with a set of Pfeil carving chisels. I have carved a few ornaments to date, but this is my first larger carving. It\\\\\\\'s carved from 8/4 basswood and is about 24\\\\\\\" by 9\\\\\\\".
I painted it with a mixture of craft and artist\\\\\\\'s acrylics. I switched to the artist\\\\\\\'s acrylics when painting the blue and red as the darker colors would not cover. While the artist\\\\\\\'s acrylics are more expensive up front, I found they cover in one coats and a little goes a long way.
Thanks for looking. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions to improve my work.
Thanks,
Tim
