Bob, Absolutely wonderful! I wouldn't change even one small detail on this work. You have great depth with the carving and the wood burned details are perfect. The way you have the wife surrounded by pale colors grabs your eye right to her and to the idea that she has no idea of what is coming.

Perfect! Sign and hang this one.

Thanks Thor. It was a fun piece to do and watch as it developed. Thanks for the help on the period dress, it was just what I needed.

    Standing applause!
Great job on the entire carving, pyro, theme, details, finish, humor, story telling ability. and overall originality!
Great choice for their house too. It resembles a Viking long house. The Viking apron dress is a nice touch. She is way more stylin' than a cave woman now.

Looks like you SHOULD be happy with it! Very, Very nice! Is that what you wanted the scaling tip for? If so, it seems to have worked well!

Applied finish today, so for all intents and purposes, it's finished. Still have the plaque to do, but the carving is done. Made a few alterations, like Thor's suggestion for the dress of the lady of the house, and the house itself. The dragons teeth were the last bit.....carved from Holly, with a pin attached, glued in place in the gums. I felt just like a dentist!

I'm quite happy with the results.

Thanks Thor, that's a great reference picture. I'll see what I can do with it. Any suggestions on their abode? I'm not sure what I was trying to achieve with the look, perhaps a weave look, but I'm not happy with it. It clashes with the scales effect. I'm looking for alternatives.

    Bob, I love it.
The dragon is awesome and I really admire your sence of humor and story telling ability right alongside the carving skills.

I read that you're having trouble with the woman. She is actually looking more cavewoman to me than Viking. If you want to improve her period look, then you can follow this look to see what a Norse woman (Viking) would have been wearing. The apron dress is much more accurate, and I think, more easily carved than what she's wearing now.

The photo on the left is a pretty accurate 10th century clothing interpretation.
I am really enjoying watching your progress.

Jumped in and continued the scales after shaping the head and face. Got the structure I wanted, established plates and then detailed the scales. Just a bit of work to do on the mouth, dragons need teeth after all, and a few other minor detail and then I can finish.
