        Re: Bass Finished

Thanks, everyone! Appreciate the good words. I don't plan on entering him in any competition...there just isn't any close around here. We lucked out on the snow (so far) as we ONLY got about 8 inches and they cancelled the severe winter storm warning. But the Duluth TV channels are all saying that the UP may still get some severe stuff off the lake when the wind switches to the north. Oh, well....... 24 degrees right now and a howling west wind, but clear skies!

Nancy......no fish for your time spent? Well, the GOOD THING about fishing is that even if you don't catch anything, you've still mangaed to waste the whole day......doesn't get better than that!

                Re: Bass Finished

Bart, I think I spend a lot more time carving than painting. Most of this fish carving is done with just a bench knife. I do use a small "V" tool for the vanes on the fins, and a dremel for hollowing the mouth out, but everything else is "whittled". Probably could save a lot of time by going to power, but I kinda like whittlin'!

I also use "dime store" acrylics, so most of my painting time is spent trying to figure out the right mixes for colors.....lot of trial and error doing it that way. I rarely do more than 3 carvings of any kind per year.

Oh, ya, I forgot about the scales......they probably take as long as either carving OR painting....maybe even carving AND painting. hehehehe.

                Al
