Re: My Juniper Piece In Progress
Looking very nice at this stage. How do you do it - do you have a pattern/scene in mind, and find wood to match, or do you just look at a piece of wood and think "Aha! I know what to do"?

Re: My Juniper Piece In Progress
Thank you Bart and Claude for the nice comments, it has been a challenge, different style than what I usually attempt, as to Claude's question, I only do fish so I just start looking for fish in the wood. It also helps because I love to carve large mouth bass chasing smaller bluegills, it's okay if you don't identify the fish specis as it is intended as an interpertive carving, thanks again.......

Re: My Juniper Piece In Progress
That is coming along nicely, Virgil! Carving a "scene" from a single piece of driftwood or weathered wood is an art unto itself. Being able to see the individual elements before they are developed fully must require some great degree of forthought.
I've only worked with "chunks" of figured wood to carve some naturally finished fish, and have been able to sand down one surface and "see" a particualr fish in the wood, but never had the balls to try what you do with a large twisted piece. You have inspired me to look at some driftwood this winter, though!
