Got the second installment of my arch headers done.This one is in Bass as well, but decided to leave the wood show with just laquer.This is on the opposite side of the one with the shield on it.

What a beautiful design! You make acanthus leaves look easy, but in my experience they aren't. I've never tried to carve a shell before. Wonderful to see.
Now that you've started, you whole house will need those.

Thanks everyone,I think it did come out pretty well. Shells are fun, and versatile, just like the acanthus leaves.The biggest shell I've made was 36" across and 24" deep,,there is a trick to doing 'em that big though. But the leaves, like I said in another post,you can do anything with them.Drape them around things,stretch them,curl them, you can fill ALOT of space with them very simply, and it looks like you really did something special.I especially like them because they have a very linear yet fluid look to them,nothing brings a carving together like a smooth "S" curve, it naturally gets your eye to follow it,

Very nice Mark. It must really stand out as its quite eye catching from your attachment. The challenge ahead of you now is that you'll be looking at your wall paint/wall paper and other room accessories as your carving may make everything else look...well... dull! Take it from someone who got new cupboards and found out that the appliances needed to get replaced as well.Sad
