  • Relief Carving WIP

    Here is the relief carving I am currently working on. It is the town in tthe movie Van Helsing. I have been working on it for about a year on and off - very off mostly. Hopefully will complete it this year.

    Deborah - what's the size of this? It looks like it's worth all the work you've put into it.

      Hi Nancy;

      This piece is 13"x30"x2" thick. It is basswood. I haven't decided when I do all the board work on the wooden houses whether I want to burn it or just carve it. Will see what it wants me to do when I get that far.

          Very pleasing composition! It looks as thought you could follow the road right out of the archway! The time you have spent on it shows. I hope you'll show more pictures as you progress with it.

            Deborah, I am probably too old to being using language like this but, dang that's cool.

                That is an awesome scene. Well done! I love the wrap around effect you have on the buildings, and the depth gives plenty of great shadows. Very cool piece!!! Smile

                  Your wonderful scene strongly reminds me of one of my favorite Charles Dickens movies: "Oliver". Well done!

                      Great carving, depth in the backround towers makes you want to know more, I like scenes like that which inspire you to stop and think what might be happening in the shops or if its windblown sand or snow drifting against the fence.. you will never call that one just an old board again,,, Good work
                      it also gives me a charles dickens meets tim burtons nigh before christmas. mystic darkness arre about it .if you was going for that...

                          It almost appears the buildings are leaning in to look at something. A lot of work went into that piece. Keep us posted on its developments.
