  • New Ballerina

Just about done wirh this, just lack a little final sanding and then stain and lacquer plus a nice looking base. She is carved from Tupelo and is about 12" high. A fun little project.

Very nice Doug. You must have ballerinas in your family. I'm sure they appreciate your subject matter very much. I look forward to seeing this one with the finish on her.

Beautiful carving Doug. Love the grace and form of the dancer. Well done.

Before they slip me over the standing part of the fore sheet, let them pipe: "Up Spirits" one more time.

Yep, a nice one indeed. Just a stain? Do you use wood conditioner on the tupelo?

No Kenny, I didn't use a wood conditioner. And though I had planned to stain her, after we had such good luck painting the one with the broken arm Mary wanted to paint this one too. Here she is all done and painted with oils.Thinned down oil and a lot of rubbing with a rag.

Nice work, Doug. I've never worked
                  with Tupelo. Is it hard?

Flint-- Tupelo ranges from about as hard as Basswood to extremely soft. It is wonderful for sculpting with power tools and sands VERY easily.
