A local art group allowed me to premier I piece I produced in honour of the fallen for display until the 11th November. The idea for the pice came from the symbol of the poppy, the carving depicts a soldier picking a poppy from the fields of Flanders in France during WW1and the falling poppies represent for me the fallen soldiers of the armed services and the commonwealth.
The wood I used for the carving is lime with a water based red stain for the petals on an oak base. I predominately used a Foredom power carver for the bulk of the work.

Very attractive carving and excellent subject. So glad you did it for those veterans and also a memory to all veterans. Your technique is complex, yet simple. Great balance there, Steve.

Before they slip me over the standing part of the fore sheet, let them pipe: "Up Spirits" one more time.
