  • My first attempt at Pyrography: Lid for Gift box

I have never done this before and wanted something different to put my wife's Christmas gift in (it was a custom made set of jewelry). I had a cheap 28 dollar kit. I did not bother shading or anything..I was just happy it looked like a bird.

The lid is Maple, Rest of box is Cherry. I always flock the inside of boxes that I make that will hold jewelry.

The box lid looks very nice, especially for a first pyrography project.
It reminded me of my own first attempt with a simple woodburning tool - a scrapbook cover for my girlfriend - some ivy leaves and a few words. It's long gone, but the memories are with me. She is gone too. This month would have been our 65th wedding anniversary.

Here is a photo of a relief I carved about the same time - Christmas, 1949

Nicely done, especially for your first attempt. I'm sure your wife will cherish it forever.

That's a Project to be Proud of. I think it was done very well. When you Flock the inside of Box , do you Spray it ?? I haven't heard of Flocking in Years. Thanks for the Memories. Merle

I coat the box with adhesive (same color as flocking). Really pretty simple to do...actually easier than cutting and trying to adhere velvet or other fabric to the box.

I am just now realizing my creative side LOL.

I like your bird. It's simple but looks very nice. I have a couple of boxes that I have been thinking about burning something on and think I will find something similar.
