How To Open a Wood Box Lid That's Stuck?

I'm not sure where this thread should go, but since I'm burning a box, I figured I would put it here.

I'm burning the lids of pill boxes and one of lids is stuck to the bottom; I cannot get off. I tried putting the box in the freezer, thinking maybe that would loosen the wood, but it didn't.

I've searched the internet trying to find a way to do this but I didn't find anything. Does anybody have any idea how to get the lid off?

I would think freezing would swell the water in the wood. Given the fact you live in Florida, I'm guessing humidity is a factor. You might try putting it in the sun in a dry room--or somewhere that would get some of the moisture out of the wood.

Another solution might be to drill a small hole in the lid in a inconspicuous spot. A vacuum might have been created when a tight fitting lid was pushed onto the bottom. Humidity would be a factor in that case also.

If you have access to those little silica gel packets that come with electronics, cameras, etc., put the box in a ziploc bag with one or two of the silica packets. Seal tightly, then place in a warm spot. If the ziplock doesn't seem airtight, double bag it. You might be able to get some of the silica gel packets from Best Buy, or a camera store nearby...
