Intertwining

I have tried for quite a long time to do this kind of intertwining (I don't know whether the word is correct). I was inspired by the seat of a chair which was made by threads of rope. But I change it into a sort of ribbons, on whiche I carved some different grooves (3 gouges #11/0.5mm - #11/1 mm and #11/3 mm). The type of wood is "Okoumè". Actually, I don't know where this wood comes from, it sound like African.

Some would call this style 'basket weave'. Not familiar with that type of wood but you did a nice job on this piece.

Okoume is mostly from Gabon, Africa. It is often made into veneer (plywood). I have made two kayaks from the 4mm plywood. Some of the leftovers became dividers in my carving toolbox.

Here's another example of intertwining or weaving in three dimensions. This is a Scout neckerchief slide with four intertwining loops (in four colors). Basswood, 5/8" x 1-1/4" x 1"
