  • Bayou Satiddy Nite!

IMG_0284 - Copy.jpg Even the critters pass a good time down da bayou on Sattidy nite! For those not familiar with it, "Fais do-do" in French means "go to sleep." In Cajun country, a Fais Do-Do was a gathering where the little kids were all put to sleep so the grown-ups could make music and dance.

Bass wood 12 x 12, finished with BLO, acrylics, and garnet shellac. This was a fun carve.

When I first started to pencil in the drawing (which I got on the net, no attribution), my wife fell in love with it and announced that I was not to give this one away as long as she draws breath.

Good eye, Eddy! Yes, they are. I got some thread from my wife, hung it with a weight to keep it straight then soaked it with that watery, useless super glue to keep it straight as it dried. Then I cut them to length and glued them in place. Worked well until my wife showed it to our 4 year old great-granddaughter who immediately tried to play the guitar with her finger...predictable result, lol! She cried when she saw what happened, poor little doll! I've already fixed it and she's coming over this afternoon to see that all's well.

Nice one Arthur! Good tip for the string and super glue. Seeing this makes me miss my old Doug Kershaw, Jimmy C. Newman and Fiddling Frenchie Burke cassettes. Aaaaayyyeee!

Great theme, and hanging. Reminds you to remember the good things in life. I can see why your wife loved it. Great job, has a wonderful folk story also.
