Nice project, but several canes shown don't look like practical "working" canes, and others are more walking sticks than canes. Isn't there a similar group making canes for disabled veterans?

There are a number of canes for vet programs, the Texas woodcarvers guild had a one and the American National Cane Club. Some other carving clubs do it for local vets in their area. Fun Projects and the vets really seem to appreciate getting them.

Thanks for the link and looks like a very worthwhile effort, as well as fun. Certainly like to see the veteran support.

If you have a thought of doing canes for Vets or other in need you can start in your own community. Contact your nearest American legion hall or VA retirement home, Shiners, I have done canes for kids. It will not take much to fine those that could use a good stick.

You can also just contact local VA clinics, hospitals, and veteran service organizations. Since battlefield medicine has improved many vets are surviving but disabled. Even the older vets are getting less mobile and have a need for canes.

Glad to see the interest in helping the veterans...a great thought.
