Okay, not pretty, just a stick, not even quite "rustic", but usable. Lilac..hard as nails! Yeah, I need more now. I left the hook on the bottom in case I need to fend off irate raccoons or something. Not likely, but it is good for a conversation starter. C&C welcome.

"Just a stick", not. You got yourself a very practical and useful tool that could serve many purposes. As for the hook, I have two blackthorne walking sticks that have short but very sharp nubs on the bottom 18 inches. They would put a big hurt on anyone trying to grab it in a self defense situation.

Any rustic stick is a work of art by nature and accented by the makers. Joe is right, now the "toppers" and they can be carved separately and attached. There are so many things you can do for a walking stick from woodburning to carving, to inlays, to...limitless.

Glad you started and it can become as addictive as carving.

        Nice stick.

Thank you, Bill and Joe, for the nice comments. I do plan on using this stick real soon.
Woodburner, I know the options are endless, I just needed a stick quick for a trek in Washington, thank you for the suggestions.

Security. The stick brings a mind of it's own when your sense of balance is poor or need for support is important.
I need a stick and I'd enjoy walking with that one. They are singular, unique and conversation starters.

Brian, balance, that is what I noticed with this stick right off, suits me nice.
Claude, thank you. Now, what do you think a Christmas Stick should have?

Hi Sappy, Aaah you went and did it , welcome to Walking Stick making .That is Stick you can be Proud of when you take it for a Walk .One suggestion is to put a Rubber tip on it for a few reasons, to keep it from Splitting and Flattening , Better Traction on Hard Surfaces , will look more Finished , and won't annoy People with the Clicking it will make on Hard Surfaces. You might as well start looking for other pieces of Wood to make your next Stick , cause it think your Hooked . Not to worry it's a Fun trip . Oh ! keep your first Stick and Sign it. Good Job . Merle, thank you for mentioning the rubber tip, I was actually wondering about that. I only have white ones though, didn't want white. Maybe on the "next" stick, ha ha!

Hi Sappy , I know what you mean about White Rubber Tips . When I first started with Sticks I got White ones , didn't like them either , went with the Black and stayed with it. Hope you use your Stick and enjoy it . Merle
