Hopefully! The tail had me stumped for abit and almost was one. The wings are also giving me worries.

7hrs carving. My new favourite tool is the Ashley iles #2 1/2 2mm spoon bent.

That is going to be a neat carving, how do you like tulip?

I prefer lime/basswood. Tulip carves nicely, until you hit a bad patch of grain, then it can tear. Also, carved tulip isn't as smooth as carved lime. Parts of it can be very hard. That being said, it was free, so everything else can be overlooked.

When I saw # 6 I thought about ridding into town a whooping and whapping or am I the only one

Somewhere around 18-20 hours, I think.

Dan, that's really looking good! Loved your comment about the "almost" stump tail. The nice thing about carving a mythical creature is that no one can tell you that you made a mistake...it looks like anything you want it to!

That is a magnificent bird. How do you hold it to carve?

I have a leather panel beaters pad filled with rice and a clamp with rubber feet. Also a vice occasionally.

Hi Dan , You have done a lot of Planning and Thought into this Project and it shows. The way you have done so far shows that you are not a Beginner with just 6 Carvings , If you are you have a Lot of Talent . Should be a Great Piece. Merle
