I have the vids for Gene Messer Hiker carrying a Canoe with the arms movement. He stated at beginning how would probably be not available.. So I ask on here if anyone had a copy they could copy and email. Pdf, jpg, give etc.

I take a screenshot at the beginning and then generate a pattern that way...edit it in a graphics program like PhotoShop or GIMP. I've found most patterns aren't available for his work, but there are a few.

DougLinker and Sharonmyart don't have patterns but detail the measurements as they carve, which is as good as a pattern. I'll make one and then use it as a model to make a pattern and enlarge as needed.

Not the answer you want but I've also had the problem and it can be frustrating. Sometimes Gene will carve something from a book, like Mike Shipley's for instance and you can go the book for a detailed pattern. I know the carving you are referring to but don't know of a pattern. Google search is usually the only answer.

Good luck and if you do find a pattern please let me know.

      Hi Bill

I do believe it is Rick Butz book
Popular Public Television Series by Rick Butz and Ellen Butz (1994, Paperback)

Below it the book and cover and it is available used for 4 or 5 bux on Ebay.. paperback

I ordered one. Not sure if its the one I am looking for but his tv shows used the info in book for the episodes on PBS.

Thanks Willy, and that is a new source for me but will check it out. Will have to walk in your footsteps and get a copy of the book. I do the same thing with most carving books because used they usually are a lot cheaper than new...if available at all.

I will take a look and please let me know what you find when you get it. Frankly, I never heard of Butz until it was recently mentioned here.

            Hi .
Thanks for that but new that already.. I got the videos and was going to work from them when attempting the hiker but not done so yet.. Will see what Butz'z book has to offer..

Main dimension is the width of canoe to the with of hikers hands as they have to match. Cano is suppoed to sit up in his hands as if walking with it above his head. Does not have to be that way I spoz. !

Will see. Might be a bit much..

For portaging many canoes have a yoke that rests on the hiker's shoulders, with the hiker's head up in the inverted canoe. The yoke is mounted to the sides of the canoe.

Willwog....The majority of items that I carve I download in some way, shape, or form using Google. When I find a shape or figure that meets my needs I use the app/program "Snipet" (https://download.cnet.com/Free-Snipp...-77745838.html) to take a screen shot of that item. Then I use the app/program InFanView ( https://download.cnet.com/IrfanView/) to manipulate the picture to a carving pattern. I looked at Gene Messer's canoe video and if you take a screenshot of the pattern he is holding it will be a simple matter to convert it to a pattern that you can use.
