Thank you for this post Randy. I take advantage of the link and resources that you mentioned very frequently. It's been a wonderful aid to me.

One other thing I'd like to mention to new guys like myself is the search box on this forum. There is a wealth of information available right here. It may take a little reading to find what you're looking for, but that reading in itself will pay dividends. I've found many little hidden gems of knowledge when looking for something else.

I'd like to thank all the long time members for being so willing to share their knowledge and experience with new carvers. The support and encouragement offered here is fantastic.

Great suggestion Randy! And for those new carvers that are starting out strictly as whittlers or primarily knife people I'd suggest going to the "Helvi Knives You Tube Channel". https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnt...Rrw000qP5XAKyg

Randy, the instructions you provided for the various links do not open up as you suggest. clicking on the banner just opens the search window. It takes I am an avid web user and providing a direct hyperlink is much easier when trying to steer the user to another area. The WCI home page is a clumsy layout in my opinion. I'd like to see drop down menus all in one place,

Mike I just clicked on the WCI.com to the right of (FAQ) in the dark strip at the top of the forum home page. It took me to the WCI home page. I clicked on “ HOW TO” the drop down menu offered 5 choices. Clicking on each of those and each offered a verity of information. I am sure the WCI would be Glad to get any suggestions on how to improve the site. I have suggested a few myself over the years.

The post by Randy does indeed work just as he said..takes you to the home page and there is the how to section etc..works exactly as it should.

As someone who has been coding since the seventies ( Fortran and Cobol ..learned with punch cards at my second art school ) and has learned other languages and coded hundreds of sites fro our own business and others, I would nevertheless never think of telling a site that I just joined how they ought to code, layout their site and what ressources they should have.

Seems to me that this place works very well, has almost everything that one could wish for, and very helpful members.I first found it a few years ago, read a great deal here, had some trouble seeing all the images, was given a few suggestions on that by Claude, and finally solved my problem with viewing some of the images here myself.

In my home country Ireland we have saying about not trying to teach ones granny to suck eggs.

My advice would be to appreciate the free ressource here for what it is, after a few years, and a few carvings, it will grow on you like walking into a clubhouse of friendly people who have carving in common.
