  • New Carving Questons

Hello all I am new here. I am a long time woodworker and I would like to try some carving. I have never been good a drawing so I do not know how this is going to go. Right now I am wanting to try carving some Angels for Christmas or Snowmen. I know looks are deceiving but they look like they might be fairly simple and in a new carvers range. Are there any patterns for some simple newbie carvings available or what would be a better suggestion? Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Around 2015 or so, the WCI web site was hacked. We lost all the photos that had been with the p0sts, although the text is still available. P0sts later than 2015 should still have photos with them. In the upper right, click on the little arrow to the right of Search, then select Advanced. In the new page, you can specify the term such as "snowman", "pattern", "santa" or whatever, then farther down, select a date range, then go through the results. When you find something you like, make note of the person's username (case sensitive), and put it the Member area, click Started s Only, and search again. I try to always p0st front, back, and both side views of my carvings. These photos can be downloaded, and used as patterns. Feel free to use any of mine.

Another way, when you find a p0st you like, click on the persons username over on the left. In the new page, click the Media tab and you'll see all the photos that person has p0sted.

            +1 For Doug's video's.
He has several Christmas carvings that are beginner level and he does great step-by-step tutorials.
Great way to get started learning the basic cuts, and the progression of a carving.....then your imagination can take over!
