  • Finished another one......well sorta

So I was working on another carving for my wife and have it almost finished as it does have some flaws. Still learning some tricks and listening to advice. Not a perfect example and haven't become an expert yet (I believe it will take a while). I just had to share this one with you. I think it is my 4th or 5th carving.

                Cool Reddy Kilowatt glass!

Whittling Santas and etc is such a fun hobby.

As jackpine mentioned, they are addictive.

If somebody had told me a couple years ago, "In 2023, you're going to whittle over 40 little gnome-like characters." I would have laughed at them... ;-)

Nice job! Isn’t it great that after a bit of time carving we can have a little treasure that lifts the spirits and brings a smile?

Nice work! One suggestion: When carving the beard and hair lines, make a gentle "S" curve in the lines with the top of the "S" nearly straight, and the bottom more curved (gravity tends to pull the top straighter than the bottom). Also, make the cuts more random with some starting at the top of the beard, and others starting half-way down, or so.

Here's an example: scroll down to the bottom to see the painted version. https://forum.woodcarvingillustrated...tart-to-finish
