It looks good. Next is to try something with eyes.

While doing eyes on a practice stick may help, the challenge for a new carver is to make both of the eyes match.

Good luck and remember that patience when carving is rewarded.

That's actually the 6th shelf elf I carved. Like I said, it was the first one I felt was good enough to post. LOL. I'd do one, and see what I didn't like about it, work at makong that better on the next one.
The nose on this one gave me the most problems. I went around for a couple of weeks staring at people's noses. Thinking "Hmm, HOW would I carve that onre?" Finally got it to come out ok, not great yet, but ok.

Great job. That was one of my first carvings I completed. I keep it on my desk so I can see how much I've learned since that one.

Nice work on your little shelf elf Russ, Don't get yourself in trouble stareing at people out in public though, It is a problem when you start carving caricatures.
