Are there any free blank (patterns) downloads?

I'm interested in flat plane caricatures and would like to find a couple of blanks (profiles) to print and use to make the initial cuts with my scrollsaw.

While I'd imagine I could guestimate a decent blank it might be nice to use a printed blank to save a little time.

Perhaps there's an online library of blanks and finished pieces somewhere that I can use as a base for a few carvings?

I had been directed to this link a while back and there is a photo of a blank there I can use if all else fails. It would be nice to find several of them in one place though.

If you look on the left side of the screen, you'll find a link that says Patterns. Click on that and I think you will find some good patterns.

Not too many forum members online at the moment. I carve little guys, but not flat plane.
You might also post your request in the flat plane forum.

I don't know where you're at or if you have access to ordering from WCI or to a bookstore but if you're interested in Little people then you might give some thought to obtaining a copy of Harley Refsal's 127 page book, Whittling Little Folk. It's filled with patterns for whittling all manner of little people (18+). I dare say it would keep you occupied some time so it wouldn't be a waste of money. And the best thing about it is that it's filled with color photographs and it's only 6" x 9" in size so you can throw it in to your carving bag and haul it around with you. Highly recommended!

Look into the books written by Jack Price and Harley Refsal...tons of patterns in those books!

Thank you all again for your time. I have a book on order and will keep my eye out for the 'Art & Technique' by Harley Refsal which looks like a nice book.

My local library system has a few basic carving books that I borrowed a year ago. Perhaps I'll have another look at those sometime soon.

My index of Gene Messer's YouTube carving videos has a lot of flat plane projects, some carved from pattern cutouts and some carved from a simple block of wood. Lots of good information there.

I know this seems rather simplified but Google "free woodcarving patterns". There's a ton of them. Check out Laura Irish at this link. Also a lot of others all willing to help.

I you order Fox Chapel book be careful of books by the same author. Several months ago I ordered 2 books on scroll sawing chessmen from Amazon (both published by Fox Chapel) I expected that there would be some overlap of material. What I got was the exact same book, same photos, word for word the same on each page, not one letter moved, but with different covers and names. I am sure Amazon would have taken one of them back but my son wanted one so I gave the extra to him.

Make sure if you order that you can return the extras if they are published by Fox Chapel.
