      I was actually thinking more on the line of an ax, rather than a weapon. The leather wrap would be great in very humid or wet conditions. Nothing worst than an ax sliding around in your hands when you are working. Etching on the blade might be a motivation to keep the rust off as we have it bad here due to the salt in the air.

            My/Our Grandson is into axes and knives and not the carving types we have.. And has a forge, cool guy and has some scary stuff
            . Oh and I had been watching a gent on youtube that does engraving too,, lost him some where..
