Not sure if this is the right area, but thought it would be useful here. I came across an interestin YouTube video on how to make a pattern from a photo by using a panto-graph. I don't know how to post the link, but here's the info. It's called #59 Carving Tutorial Pattern Making, and it's by Cyrus Fillmore. It's very informative, and he shows you how to make the panto-graph.

You can buy a pantograph from Lee Valley, it works rather well. However, the arms are wood = very light weight and skitters all over.
I bought 1/8" x 3/4" x 48"aluminum strips at Home Depot and cloned the arms. Then I pruned off all the original hardware for the new one.
eg: Set the ratio of holes for 6X and a 4" drawing becomes a 24" drawing!
I don't use it once a month but outside of a lot of computer and printer fiddle, it does what I need.Brian T
