  • Well it was been a couple weeks since I sent emailed my client completion photos for her approval, and final payment. I have not had a response.

    • Gee, Ed, and maybe something happened on her end? How much has she already paid...percentage wise? Life gets in way of things and maybe it is a matter of time?

      Good luck.

Get on the phone if you have her number, just ask if she got your email. Or send another email to confirm she got the information? Sitting around wondering what happened is not cool on your behalf.

I’m not worried about just surprised we did all of our communication by email but I like the carving so it’s not a hardship to have it sitting on the mantle for awhile.

            • So it isn't delivered? Hopefully it's just a communications issue. I've sent people things and then just been ignored. Not carvings, my stuff isn't good enough to sell.

                No, not shipped.

When negotiating a commission first we discuss scope of project.
                Then price and payment schedule.
                I require a 50% non-refundable payment before I start the project.
When the project is complete I send photos and they can accept or reject the project.
If they accept they remit the the remaining 50% due. I don’t ship until I have been paid in full.
If they reject the project it is mine to sell an we are done.
This process was developed from advice received on this forum.

So she is sitting on my mantle.

Well still hope to hear from the client but the arrangement certainly keeps me in a comfortable position.

                      • I do about the same with commissions Ed. I aways feel Some one will like the work. I have had a few projects I have add a few more months than I thought I would but they do fined a home. And a few I just kept.

Ed, I can relate. I owned a custom window treatment business and learned from day one not to let a customer get ahead of me financially. I required 50% down and the balance on installation. Sometimes (rarely, thank goodness) I would get stiffed on the balance but not take a loss. My daughter bought the business when I retired, and, being smarter than her dad, requires 100% up front, and it doesn't seem to have affected sales. She simply explains that the window treatments are custom made and are of no value to anyone else, and it apparently works.

                          • For those who have been following this project. I received an email from my client’s son informing me that she passed away “unexpectedly” in late January.
