Now that's a great idea ! I'd like to make a few of those myself.

The next step was to drill the hole in the wooden stand to accept the nail assembly. I freehand drilled it at about a 45* angle.

And, thats about it. Hope you make one of these, or one like ezcarver made, to display your fridge magnet carvings. Be safe, and have fun!

The nail that I used is about 5” in length, and I made the bends by clamping the nail in my vice and tapping it into the shape I wanted with a hammer. Each bend is approximately 1” in length.

I then cleaned up the nail with my bench grinder and wire wheel. BE CAREFUL if you do this, as the wire wheel could catch the nail and send it flying!
Then, I glued a 3/4” washer to the head of the nail using E6000 adhesive.

I had a scrap of material that was removed from a standard 2 x 4 when I made my band saw jig for cutting basswood blanks diagonally, and a piece of oak about 1/4” thick. I cut them to about 3” in length.

I cut the ends of the 2 x 4 section at a 45* angle using my miter saw, and then glued it on top of the oak piece. (**I didn’t get photos of the raw pieces before glue up, so the above photos are of the completed stand. **)
Once the glue was dry, I sanded and shaped the edges up to 150 grit, applied a sanding sealer, sanded again to 220 grit, applied a coat of shellac and finished with Howard’s Feed & Wax.Last edited by T J; 05-04-2023, 02:03 PM.

Stand for fridge magnet carvings
Back in Dec. of ‘22, one of our members “ezcarver” showed how he made a stand to display his fridge magnet carvings. Please take a look at his design, as it inspired me to make one of a similar, but different design.
Here are a few pics and descriptions of how I made mine.
The finished stand…
