    Greg Gerard: That's a great idea. Bacon fat is saturated triglyceride fats so it cannot go rancid inside wood for a very long time.
    Lard is physically refined pork fat is it not? Why didn't I think of it first?
    Since it won't leach out of the wood, you can't expect it to season your food.
    I suggest 6-8 slices of dice bacon to make up for your disappointment.
    Eat 3 and season the food with the leftovers.

      OMG! I sure am glad I read this. I always thought food grade meant that you could eat your carvings after applying a liberal amount. No wonder my dentist says my enamel's wearing away faster than anyone she's ever seen!
