  • Oil and pumice or water and pumice

Hi everyone. I am getting ready to finish my comfort birds. I am using water based polyurethane. After I apply two coats of that, I am going to apply 4F pumice. Since I am using water based polyurethane, does it matter if I use oil with the pumice or water with it?

Before you do that, try rubbing one of your finished birds with a regular brown paper grocery store bag.
It might be just as abrasive as you need.

Once your poly finish is set up hard, it should be water proof.
Go easy with the water & pumice so you don't cut the finish surface.
That should be easiest to wash off. How do you know when to quit?

Robson Valley, should I try the paper bag instead of the pumice first?

Great news. Odd-ball trick but it works.
f you can figure it out, show us a bird some day.

I see you got the water-wet gloss that you wanted. Good birds.
