  • Need some advice

My first venture into butternut wood. It seems, for lack of a correct word, coarse. I'm wondering if it needs to be sealed before painting? Thanx in advance

I don't seal my butternut carvings and only paint a few areas with acrylics. I prefer to have most of the natural wood showing and just highlight some areas for an accent. Then I use the BLO for a final finish. I'm happy with the results, Joe. Love showing the beautiful grain.

Thanks, Bill. I'll need to paint to bring the carving features out. This is my first piece of butternut, it is full of wormholes, oh well will just add top the character. It should be about ready by tomorrow.
