  • What is going on with Helvie?

Is Helvie going out of business? I notice Amazon, Treeline, and other places say that Helvie knives are not available. The Helvie site doesn't even have them...what am I missing?

    Just curious.

Yeah, and odd I never read or heard any rumblings of their apparent departure. Someone must know and I figured the best answer is with folks on this forum, hence the post.

I went to their site and they didn't block selecting a set ready to put into a cart. Maybe there is selective amounts. Might have been a run on product from Country "C". Wondering.

OK, my dumb error with their site. I was looking for the products displayed on the home page and didn't use their link at the top. I do wonder why the other vendors don't have them though?

I think they're selling them as fast as they make them. We needed one on a tight deadline for a photo shoot, and they did us a favor and made it on the spot for us.

Well, that is a good problem for a business to have. Something is going on because I was looking at getting one and my sources have dried up. I guess they can't sell them if they can't get them.

Yes every time I speak to Rich he's out making knives, and Rich works a full time job on top of that.He told me this morning they had there website down for a week doing a re design on it.I always say quality is worth waiting for.

I have not tried to buy Helvie knives from a third party. I just used their site, or called Holli on the phone.

If any of you are within driving distance of Lebanon, TN, Holli and Rich usually show up at the RWR for about 3 days (week of March 17 this year.
Here's a couple of photos of their table showing what they bring with them (Mar 2017)

If anyone questions this just go to the Helvi YouTube site and see for themselves what goes into making one of their knives.. Why give the middle man a portion of the profits on their products.

People sometimes get the impression that Helvie is a big company like Flexcut or Pfeil, perhaps because of the name recognition and the large selection of knives on their website. But it is just two people, Rich and Holli Smithson! Rich has a full time job, and Holli home schools their beautiful daughter, in addition to turning out all the knives and other tools they make. And a lot of their knives are custom made according to your specific order regarding blade and handle style and size, so they can't just pull it off the shelf. They are the nicest people you will ever meet and produce a quality product. I am not sure how it works with their distributors, but they have not been bought out and their knives are still available at helvieknives.com.

Well said Mike. They are good, hardworking people who put out a top of the line quality product. Yes, they are build to order, but it is well worth the time. You will not be disappointed!
