Interesting development... An 18 year old woman and her grandmother came to our carving club yesterday afternoon and wanted to learn wood carving. We set out around 10 different knives, handed them each a piece of wood, then showed them the paring and push cuts. Then we told them to try all the knives to see what handle shape fit their hands best. The grandmother preferred ones with cigar-shaped handles, as she has a bit of arthritis. The 18 year old has quite small hands, so she didn't like any of the fatter handles or blades over 1 inch long. She really liked my little knife with the (formerly) broken blade as she said it was really comfortable to hold.
