  • Need file suggestions

I mostly hand carve small caricatures 3-4 inches tall and from 1X1 up to 1.5X1.5 inches square. I've checked Amazon for very small curved files and just didn't see what I needed. Most actually seem to be large. I also checked the wood carving tool places that I'm aware of.

So, does anyone have a suggestion and/or a source for inexpensive curved small files?

    Thanks,
    Bill

I've got the hand stitched riffler set. Don't use them every day but some days, they are the best.
The random stitching means that you don't get regularly spaced scratches like a cheap, machine made rasp.

Bill I uses a pin vise with 3/32 diamond burs. it work really well for small detail. You can get a 30 bur set for about $8. Under jewlers files there is a nice file set that work for small project also. $12. I us those quite a bit also. Amazon as them all. hope that is what you were asking about. I added wooden handles to the files Will post picture tomorrow. PS. A pin vise comes in 1/8th inch or 3/32nd inch for burs.

I’ve got the fine cut hand stitched rifflers from Gramercy. They are inexpensive for hand stitched tools, but probably more than you’re going to pay on Amazon. I really like them, and they cut fast.

I have a set of Riffler Files that I bought years ago . Started to cut them in half to install Handles , did it on 2 Files and then decided to do something else and that is as far as I got . Could never get the hang of using them and they tore up my Hands . Mine might be larger than the ones you are talking about , don't like them . Merle

Lee Valley would have been my suggestion. Others would be Stew Mac or other Luthier/Guitar supply houses.
