  • I&H Sorby spokeshave

Found a guy on Kijiji selling antique wood working tools. Got my hands on two spokeshaves, one has the I&H Sorby mark on the handle and steel, the other says PT on the handle. Popped the blade out of the Sorby, sharpened it up real quick and it's a beauty.

Wanted to rebuild the handle, but after learning the history and age of the tool I dont want to defile it. 20200824_081838.jpg

Carving horse buggy wheel spokes and axe handles. SS are a pleasure to use.
Care to say what you found the total included bevel edge angle to be?

28 degrees on the larger of the two, 26 on the smaller.

Thanks, John. Samona (S. Korea) spoke shaves are 28 degrees as well.

Already started work on a hatchet handle as a matter of fact.

Show us the hatchet handle some day, if you have a mind to.

I used mine to do spoon and fork handles, one set to cut thick and the other to cut thin to take off the ridges. No more of those.
Now I use the SS to finish story pole surfaces so I can lay out drawings.
