New bench light

A few months ago my old adjustable arm bench light gave out. I wanted a light with a magnifier in it and one that offered good contrast while working. I was watching a how to on you tube and the craftsman bragged about his new light. After looking in to it I rolled the dice and got the Brightech LightView PRO LED 2.25x Magnifying Glass Clamp Lamp. I think it is the best and most versatile light I have had and appears to be really well made. The led light is adjustable from bright white to warm and both are dimmable letting me maximize the contrast and shadows on the detail. It is nice to be able to adjust the light intensity to where you want it while you are working. The magnifier is nice too. I wanted to share in case anyone is looking for a bench light. I have something similar though not as versatile. I really like it. One hint -- if you are looking for something like this, be sure the lens is glass, not plastic. The plastic lens is a dust magnet. A glass lens wipes clean with one wipe. Plus it is a bit easier on the eyes.

Hi Randy , I use a Head Band held Magnifier but checked out your suggestion on Magnifiers . My work space on my Bench is 24"x 24" and would be to small for a Desk type so I'm getting the Floor Type. It has 6.5" x 4" Lens , which would be more comfortable me . I was surprised at the reasonable Price . You keep finding and giving us these Tips to help our Hobby get better and easier, Thank You . I have something similar, Merle, they clamp on to the side of your bench, taking up a minimal amount of work space.

I had one very similar in design clamped to my drafting table for over 25-years. They are extremely handy as they can be mounted in a position that doesn't interfere with any other equipment or function and yet still provide the light/magnification where it's needed. In my case it was the PMP, parallel motion protractor.

Incandescent room lighting is OK. As pointed out, LED bench lighting is such a relief.
The devices are almost focused to direct the light to the subject, not splashed all over the shop walls.
I have one LED light to make "hard" shadows on the carving so I can see the ridges left by knife cuts.
Great aid to examine bevel edges for sharpening.

I was sold on LED lights after carving with Roger Stegall in November. He had a Ryobi, LED, battery powered task light, and the lighting was wonderful.

I just went to Hobby Lobby this past weekend, and they had their Ottlites on sale for 50% off. I got a LED task lamp, 550 lumens for $29.99.

It replaces the halogen light I currently have...the halogen was doggone hot!
