  • New Bear Skinning Knife...

    OK..so it's a bear carving knife.

I cut this twisted cherry branch down with some honeysuckle vine wrapped around it last year. I cut it down since both the cherry sapling and the honeysuckle vine were dead. I didn't what would become of the short piece of branch since it wasn't anything big enough to carve.

I had a Flex-cut skew knife which I liked the edge to carve with but couldn't stand the dolphin tail handle--too big and bulky.

Excellent example of what I always go on about.
Get a good blade that you like and haft it into a knife that you enjoy.

How is it in the hand? Could you shut your eyes and know the orientation of the blade?

Very comfortable. There is a slight curvature to the handle. So it naturally falls into place in my hand. If I turn it in my hand, I can tell you time on the clock the point is pointing to.

        Bob,

Just about the ugliest knife I have ever seen, but if you like it I’m just plum tickled for you. As my dad use to say that’s why they make Fords and Chevrolets.

If you go to a carving club meeting, you'll never have to worry about identifying your knife. A fine job of mating them up

Interesting shaped handle... Not sure how it would feel in the hand, but if it fits your hand, that's the important thing, and, as JPB says: you'll always be able to identify it...

Thanks! I wish I could post a video but this is the best I can do.

I find it hard to believe myself but it's like I said. I couldn't make a better fitting handle if I took a hand full of clay an squeezed it. I know, I've tried it.

The knife handle looks like a few of my fingers...arthritis. Perhaps I will try a handle that fits the fingers like this.

I like the originality of the idea and the outcome. Well done.
