What kind of chisel is this?

Bought a Ramelson palm set which came with a 3/16 chisel but don't know what it's used for. The label that came with the set said it was a 3/16 Bt. Chisel or just a 3/16 chisel. It is beveled on both sides of the flat width of the tool and comes to a point in the center. Never seen one like this and don't know if it is a manufacture's mistake. See photo

Their quality seems to at a low point lately. I ordered 3 fishtail chisels from them and all 3 were defective. The good news is their customer service was fast and effective. Quick refund and this response....
"John, I am very sad and sorry about the return today. We really messed this up on you and I am very sorry. I am not sure if you would be willing to give us a second chance, but if you do please let me know and I will take care of it myself. This is not the quality Ramelson is known for and we will always stand behind our product and name. You have been fully refunded, it just may take a few days to see the credit."

Thank you johnvansyskel. You did one thing and that was to let me know what bt. (bent) meant. So the one that is defective is the straight chisel. I'll get ahold of Ramelson concerning the one chisel. I really don't want to have to send the set back as I've already thrown the shipping containers away and all of the other chisels seem to be fine. What I will do, is see if they will replace the one bad chisel. If not, I may just grind the thing down myself and call it good. I was looking to see if it was a chisel that I've never seen before and didn't know how to use it.

UPDATE: Contacted Ramelson customer service concerning the issue of the defective chisel. They have agreed to send out a replacement today. Thanks again for the input.

The tip shape is a "parting tool," commonly used for straight, deep cuts in wood turning.
Sideways, I use one in stone carving but there are better choices.
How this got muddled into a wood carving set puzzles me.

Indeed. I figured that someone was stoned or maybe being a wise-guy and ground it wrong. I do wood turning and completely missed that it is shaped like a parting tool, probably because mine is about 2 feet long. lol

It does. Remember, this tip goes into moving wood in a tangential direction so it chips out very easily.

Brian T But the cutting edge isn’t 'knife-like', right? It seems pretty thick.

The little horizontal edge is the cutter. The physical load on wood turning tools is so much greater than on wood carving tools. There needs to be a lot of steel for support behind the edge.

Hey guys, first thing I looked at was the card that came with the set of tools. 3/16" chisel. Try looking up the tool on Ramelson's website... can't find it. Even customer service said it was a defective tool. To light weight to be a parting tool for a lathe...even a mini lathe. We're talking 4" long and a 1/8" square shaft. It wouldn't take any pressure to bend it.
