Hi Guys
Thanks for ther comments.
Don't think I will be doing any carving for a while. Am in a world of pain with this reaction to the covid booster. Can't even focus on reading a book or watching TV.
Think I will go up to the hospital tomorrow to see if they can knock the pain back a peg or two. Is Not a lot Of Fun.
Real waste of good carving time. !!!

Yuck. Hopefully you get some resolution for your pain. I've had some arm, hand and neck pain issues that I attributed to sleeping wrong. Maybe it was from the booster, back in November. At least the neck pain has reduced. I figured a cure would be to go out and do some shoulder exercises with some dumb bells. It seemed to help some. Time to go do a couple dozen more of those movements.

I didn't have that bad of a reaction to the Covid vac.'s but the second Shingles shot was bad. Several friends said it was the same with them.
On the 2,5mm eyes, I can only suggest to use the thinnest and sharpest tool you have. For me, it would be a chisel I made from a piece a steel that came off a street sweeper brush. It is about 1.1mm wide. I have some at 2.5mm wide and I can get them fairly sharp using sandpaper--starting with 160 grit, then 400 grit, 600, 1000 and on up to 2000 grit.
Otherwise, the only other thing I can think of would be using a #11 X-acto blade.

Regarding Covid, my wife and I got the vacs and the booster with no ill effects. Now we both have Covid, day 4 of symptoms. Thankfully, I've had colds that were worse, so I chalk that up to having the vacs. The fatigue has been the worst part...day two all I wanted to do was doze. After a good night's sleep, today I think we're on the mend.Arthur

The cheetah I'm working on head is about 18mm wide and the eye about 2.5mm at the widest point and 1.5mm high. I also want to do detailed pieces of life size humming birds. I want to try and get them looking as close as I can to the real thing.
What tools would you use to fine detail something this small???
ALL Thoughts would be most appreciated.Last edited by DiLeon; 01-20-2022, 10:56 AM.. Explore! Dream! Discover!” aloha Di

Hi Joe
Best of luck with the booster shots mate!!!!!
Hi BobL, Di,
Thanks for the tips for doing the eyes. Di Those domed shape sanders look to be ideal. I made dome punches for making dome patterns in my rifle engraving. The mental wheels are churning as to modifying them for carving. will see what the real deal costs first.
Hi Arthur
Bet your glad you had the shots!!! Wishing you both the very best of luck with it all. Hope you have aspeedy recovery.
Hi Merle
Thanks mate. This is the most strange thing. It was so bad yesterday morning that I got cleaned up to go to the hospital and was exhausted with the effort so decided to go back to bed for a couple of hours. Asked god for some help as 8 pain killers over the day wern't even taking the edge offthe pain levels.
I woke up about 3 hours later and if I just lay still there was no pain and when I had a look the swelling had gone down by about 80% in the knees. Still sore to walk on but vast improvement. Can now take a bout a 10 inch step with the aid of a stick at the worst yesterday that was about 4 inches. Still have trouble sitting down is more like a controlled crash landing and getting up is painfull but doable. This is a huge relief. Unbelievable really. Have some clarity of mind back to. Hope this is the beggining of the mend. Can but hope.
Hi Claude
The smaller gouges will I think be very useful.
Well that's my exercise for today. Going back to bed catch you all later. Happy carving guys n gals.
