The only thing I would worry about is heavy rain on this one, ....but meteorologists are saying it is a messy system unknown at this time what it will do. Tropical storms I do not worry too much about including Cat one hurricanes....it is the big stuff that I watch. It is going to be a long summer again...

Lived here for about the same amount of time. I fell in love with the mountains and ocean and people. It came with rats, eight-inch centipedes, roaches that move the furniture....volcanos, tsunamis, earthquakes and hurricanes...plus hot sweating summers and the major cost of living. But I stay the...

I do not think it is as much as getting old as the weather is not so normal.....this sweating within a short time is something I do not remember but then again could be a lack of wind. Your right this is August weather and Sept weather for us. I am messing with the fence today also....whole darn...

I got the bamboo PJ and have not worked outside in it. But I notice I am a lot cooler at night and do not sweat so much. Bamboo is supposed to be three degrees cooler than cotton. But I like the softness and bamboo fiber is highly absorbent, much more so, and faster drying than cotton. In warm,...

Yes for sure...it is ninety in the house by noon each day, and I am dragging my water jug around, trying to get the body used to the heat for summer, impossible to go outside and work mid-day now. Think humidity is 81 percent right now. Did find out the new bamboo clothes are cooler to wear in this...

  • When carving caricatures in good basswood....all you need is a knife and perhaps some micro gouges. That is all I would use today. The fact is the last caricatures I carve were only knives and Dremel for fine line work. Although in my carving history I started messing with other forms of carving...

Large green carving what I do is pray. No one I know of would build a kiln that big unless you're going to use it a lot....and by the time you get her built that wood is either going to crack or will not. I learned a long time ago, you may mess up the piece, the wood may crack, or you find this...

Roto zip sounds interesting but I got one too many tools that like to travel, or jump into the air and fly.....do not need one more. I have that bit, I love mine also...just praying it holds an edge for a while....

My sister lives in Florida and I have often thought of moving there if I have to leave here, cost of living is getting beyond insanity. Your houses are super affordable and you can leave the state when hurricanes come. But I hate Florida bugs and you do not have any mountains which I major enjoy. I...

We get the major wind at times....the umbrellas above the ground fly, the ones planted in the ground will break. So I keep my eyes on the weather reports especially when it comes to wind strength. I am on a mountain, and for some reason do not get major hit by the wind like my neighbors. Yet I can get...

My grandparents were from Colorado. I have not been back since they passed, but memories of fishing in the lakes, deer in the pines, and the rocky mountains rivers, and springs as a child are imprinted in my mind. I love Colorado. When I lived in the mainland, I had a studio much the same as yours,...

At least we have trade winds in the middle of the heat, but like me ...you walk outside and humidity is so high your sweating enough to look like someone poured a bucket of water on you. If I get on my roof, I can see the bay on the south side which was once a volcano crater, and on the east side is...

We have a lot of people flying here for a vacation the last few months. What they do not know here in paradise is a shortage of rental cars, during the last year's shutdowns the rental car places sold their cars to the mainland leaving a few. So paradise hotel and air flight cost to Hawaii is nothing...

Honestly each year I say it is getting worse and worse ...the heat. But I do not have AC normal cost of electricity for a house here about five hundred dollars a month. Unless you got your whole roof in solar panels ....may cut cost. So I have to get used to the hot weather...no choices and the...

I study permacultural a while back and have thought about teaching it. Basic it is a natural way to process the soil...wood chips are the best way to turn bad soil into black gold.....no fertilizers and no sprays for weeds, and trees and plants are super healthy. I am the one standing in the street...

[QUOTE=Brian T;n1199603]I've only carved outdoors once. Was an artisan's exhibition. I was criticized for leaving a small handful of wood chips on the lawn grass. I can't think of anything polite that I might have said at the time. That was so depressing that I decided that I would never accept another...

Been busy trying to get summer work finished before the outrageous heat begins. Yesterday hanging off the drop off on the mountain cutting trees....few had to go before they fell on the house. This is another area, someone gave me broken black marble from a contract job.....I made a round cement patio in which I inserted a pipe to hold the umbrella. This umbrella was my first one...seven years ago, although I coated it with white roofing material and then painted it....one thing about these...

    Carving outside in summer

If you got any good techniques for working outside???? please add suggestions.

Carving outside the sun is shining and UV here is a high 11 in the tropics... Which means it will roast you just like a pig. Also the minute I get out and settled here comes a rainstorm and if not that the mosquitos...
