  • If there is no sun, you can even hold it in your hand to get the outer surfaces to soften a bit which is really all you need. Hope it works for you. Another thought I just had is the age of the compound. Mine is 4-5 years old. I imagine it gets dried out and brittle after a while.

  • I do have to put some effort into it and I do get some clumps. I keep rubbing until it smooths out and I have an even coating. Once I start stropping it smooths out and then starts to turn black, I haven't ever cleaned a strop. I just add more compound from time to time. You can try putting the compound...

  • I have the Murphy Knife. It was made by Amherst Cutlery. The handle is comfortable. The blade edge is good. It may need tuning up to your satisfaction.
