  • Merle, All three are beautiful! The contrasting background gives the carvings some added emphasis. I really like the second two pieces as they are a bit rustic/natural and very rich in color/tone also.

    Arthur, that is a wonderful painting! My wife's parents were Greek Catholic and their local church and the nearby cathedral were adorned with these beautiful Icons. I believe that Mortise and Tenon magazine had a feature story a year or so ago that explained the process in some detail and it was fascinating....

  • Finished Mallard Duck Carving

    This was carved by hand from a solid glue-up of basswood. It is 18" x 24" and was originally 2" thick. After carving and sanding, I used a wood burner with various tips to add the feather detail and finished with 3 coats of amber shellac. The wood burning was very tedious and could only...

    Nicely done! I was always a fan of Bullwinkle J! Cute little project. It reminds me of some Gingerbread man ornaments I made last year after the character in the Shrek movie. Made me smile from start to finish.
