    Bolivian woman

I posted a while back asking about Bolivian art. Well here is the piece I made for my aunt who was born in Bolivia. I hope she likes it.
I over worked it just a little bit so it is not quite as "flat plane" as I like but then again a womans body is just so much smoother than a man it's...

I would have a nice collection Joe......but I've given almost all of them away hahaha. I like that though....something I've created with my own hands to give somebody a little joy.

    Darth painted

Just finished paint today on these. I had them done carving a week ago and just haven't had time to do anything all week. I'm back at it this weekend and started a new project so hope to have it done in a few days if I have time.

Now I like that Bob L. I'm still in the "thinking about it" stage, I like that stylized version....I was worried about making the folds in a dress....I only use a knife, no gouges or anything...this way would be a little simpler. Thank ya'll for the input!

My wife loves the little guy too....I'm going to put a small eye bolt in the top and make a key chain for her.

Thanks Joe I read that too. That's kind why I was asking....I didnt want to make something offensive to her but it appears that the colorfully dressed "cholitas" are in style so to speak so I think I will make her one and maybe a little wrinkled farmer.

    Bolivian folk art

I just recently started doing flat plane caricatures and the other day my aunt who is from Bolivia asked if I could make her something. I would like to surprise her with something reminiscent of her home country. I've been googling it and I found something called "cholita" which I believe...

Thanks for all the nice comments! Yes I am surely hooked now. I've never considered myself artistic and I can't believe how naturally this has come to me. I always thought that to carve something I would have to have an artistic hand but it's just all a series of well planned cuts it seems. I look forward...

Oh by the way, after the photo I fixed Darth's face a little so he's not so beady eyed and his grill in the mouth area is a little sharper

Couple that I did today....the little one is from the bottom of one that I started and messed up. With shipping so high from Heineke I've got to try to use everything I can lol. I wanted to post the Darth Vader right now before paint because I'm afraid after its solid black the relief won't show up...

Oh I forgot to mention.....I didn't get a good side view of the taller Bobbie but on one side he has 4 fingers and the other side only 3 fingers (slip of the knife) so instead of trying to glue the minuscule finger back on I am just saying he is a wood Carver in his pastime.

Thanks for all the tips. I do remember reading somewhere about water acting like an accelerator, I'll try that. I bought some gel to try as well. I also found that after a couple applications the super glue kinda seals the wood then it will stick but you still have to hold it for a bit.

Thanks for all the tips. The way I have been applying the solution is dipping the piece in the solution and using a brush with solution on it to push it into the crevices. Then I let it sit for 10 minutes or so and then dab anything still wet. I did 3 applications like this to a test and it turned out...

    Public servants

Some little public servants and a little guy going fishing soon I did this week. Paint and finishing getting a little better. I made the antiquing solution with BLO, mineral spirits and burnt umber oil paint and it's not really leaving any brown on the figures like I would like....should I add more...

    Super glue

I've tried super glue a couple times on my caricature figures. Once to make a repair and once to glue a stick to a hobo. I'm doing a fishing pole now and having a heck of a time getting it to stick. It looks like it's just soaking in to the wood. Is it better to use gel maybe? Is the another glue out...
